The Torch is Passed Around

Executive Action After Report? kennedy-with-superman.jpg

It’s like the Anna Nicole Smith saga with a slightly more charismatic Larry Birkhead.

The supposed John F. Kennedy lovechild has spoken to Canada’s Globe & Mail, thirsting for dynastic DNA.

whalen-thomas-a-higher-purpose-cover.jpg The author of A Higher Purpose: Profiles in Presidential Courage is mobilized

to offer up quotes on JFK “vigor” before confessing,”It seems a little sordid, frankly.”

Whoever he is, he does have that Kennedy flair for self-dramatizing. He disdains Uncle Teddy’s choice when asked about US Presidential politics, flattering politics today’s ramshackle accumulation of notions and panders by elevating them to “dogma”!

“Jack said he did not cast a ballot in the recent Super Tuesday primaries, adding that he is neither a Democrat nor a Republican. “I couldn’t imagine my mind being hijacked by dogma like that,” he said.”

That’s sure to disappoint the Vancouver chapter chair of Democrats Abroad, who earlier enthused:

“If this was somehow true and he was willing to sort of promote Democrats Abroad and the ability of people in Vancouver and actually all through Canada to vote from abroad in the U.S. election, then I’d be happy if that was the outcome.”

To Casa Pacifica!

The Philippines continues it’s development into a Bizarro World version of America.

Philippine President Gloria Arroyo has gone from discussions of her “doing a Ford” and pardoning her predecessor [she did] to her current crisis, where she is urged to “Do A Nixon” nixon-marcos.JPG and resign over corruption charges.

No word on if she’ll do a Mukasey and claim no crime can have been committed. bizarro-world.jpg

“The Great Conservative God, Ronald Reagan”

Tear Down This Myth! reagan-chips-at-berlin-wall.jpg

From blogs4mccain comes a novelty:

attacking the cult of Ronald Reagan because it is a weapon false conservatives use to attack one of our greatest Presidents, George W. Bush. bush-backdrop-mount-rushmore.jpg

What follows is but a small taste, and I can’t follow the argument, but I applaud the effort. Or at least the typing involved.

“No matter how hard our demagogue conservatives have tried to destroy George W. Bush he is still the same Texas Cowboy. The conservative agenda has failed to deter a man who has governed far more conservatively than Reagan ever did….In order to maintain control of their cult followers, they have created this mythology of Reagan. It is a growing cult, one that has been carefully manipulated and cultivated has begun to explode into the conservative monolith of The Great Conservative God, Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately the truth is something very different. This is a “god” who gave us less than perfect “conservative” SCOTUS justices, yet he is cherished, his myth nurtured while George W. Bush is reviled for his less than perfect conservative record. He must be reviled and criticized at every possible turn. He must be taught that to venture toward a successful GOP Presidency is to possibly thwart the cult of Reagan. A successful Republican Presidency simply must not be allowed.”

Anybody But Nixon

Before It’s Too Late nixon-grandson-christopher-nixon-cox.jpg

Just when we are shedding the Bushes and cracks appear in the His ‘n Her Presidencies juggernaut, a new dynastic threat looms.

It may take swallowing a second generation of Romney, but it’s a price worth paying to strangle this political career in it’s cradle.

When the New York Times asked Nixon’s Grandson about his future, Christopher Nixon Cox brings the coy:

“When asked if he would ever consider running for public office, Mr. Cox sidestepped a bit. “For me, the key is to serve my country and my community in whatever way I can,” he said. “It can’t be about ego. It has to be about using my talents to serve the country in the best way I can. Right now, that means working for John McCain.”

You have been warned.
