<p style="text-align: center">&nbsp;</p>
<p>The Washington Post explores new frontiers of letting presidential candidates make up their own history, giving Rick Santorum an opportunity to fuzz up his campaign against birth control.</p>
<p>Melinda  Henneberger in her fantisy feminist pose <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/she-the-people/post/rick-santorum-the-idea-im-coming-after-your-birth-control-is-absurd/2012/01/06/gIQAOVy0fP_blog.html">She The People</a> spoke to the man himself after the fringe radicals of <a href="http://www.salon.com/2012/01/04/rick_santorum_is_coming_for_your_birth_control/singleton/">Salon</a> pointed to his views on sex [<em>against</em> it, unless in the right hands].</p>
<p>Henneberger has Santorum identifying as Catholic, so <a href="http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/article/2011/11/02/testimony-of-jon-o%E2%80%99brien-president-of-catholics-for-choice">of course</a> he&#8217;s against birth control, before moving on to the Supreme Court&#8217;s Griswold ruling which got the states out of your bedroom.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s a philosophical question you see; Santorum feels the Supremes overreached.  He&#8217;s only for leaving the states alone to do as they please, what could be the harm?</p>
<p>Henneberger then drags in cartoon Fox liberal Alan Colmes, who apparently bungled a reference to Santorum&#8217;s fetishising his dead son, to end on a &#8220;how dare you&#8221; note to those who would attack this good man.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/she-the-people/post/rick-santorum-the-idea-im-coming-after-your-birth-control-is-absurd/2012/01/06/gIQAOVy0fP_blog.htmlPOST%20A%20COMMENT%20%E2%80%94%20TRACKBACK%20URIRSS%202.0%20FEED%20FOR%20THESE%20COMMENTSThis%20entry%20(permalink)%20was%20posted%20on%20Saturday,%20January%207th,%202012%20at%2011:34%20AM%20by%20mr.president%20and%20categorized%20in%20PRESIDENTIAL%20HISTORY.%20[Revise]Post%20a%20CommentLogged%20in%20as%20mr.president.%20Log%20off?Message%C2%AB%20When%20Scions%20Attack:%20Camelot%20To%20SwallowHome"><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; text-align: left">&#8220; </span><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px; text-align: left">I’d feel silly pretending to believe he’s going to be even metaphorically riffling through medicine chests&#8221;</span></a></p>
<p>She may write, but she isn&#8217;t paying attention.</p>
<p>Back in the day, all thoughtful folk knew Ronald Reagan couldn&#8217;t possibly be elected with all his right wing baggage.  The road to hell begins in pretending as though the crazies won&#8217;t act on their impulses.</p>

<p>Just as America tries to work up enthusiasm for the 2nd generation of Romney office holders comes word from Massachusetts: someone still believes in Camelot.</p>
<p>Or what a marketable name and a possibly <a href="http://www.tauntongazette.com/news/x1833480543/Joseph-Kennedy-III-Marty-Farren-announce-run-for-4th-Congressional-seat">fractured field</a> can do in a primary.</p>
<p>The open seat created by Barney Frank&#8217;s retirement has brought forth a Kennedy, preloaded with pap for the rubes.  Joseph P. Kennedy III has let it be known he feels a call to service, and he&#8217;s aghast at the nation&#8217;s bickering pols.</p>
<p>Vowing to rise above, young &#8220;3rd,&#8221; as no one calls him, has boldly called out  &#8221;<a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/06/us/a-young-kennedy-may-run-for-office-in-massachusetts.html?ref=abbygoodnough">partisan gridlock</a>&#8221; [<em>against</em> it!].</p>
<p>With luck, we might enjoy a round of Hugo Chavez Baiting because of Kennedy&#8217;s father&#8217;s <a href="http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/09/06/kennedy-connection-to-chavez-and-citgo/">ties</a> to the cancerous Comandante.</p>
<p>Last go round the nation was spared the indignity of <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2010/09/14/all-over-but-the-scion-voters-shun-nixon-grandson/">Nixon offspring</a> holding office from Long Island.  Now it falls to the voters of Massachusetts&#8217; 4th to save the republic once again.</p>

<p>Sprightly blogger ITALKYOUBORED goes further for America, <a href="http://italkyoubored.wordpress.com/tag/barry-landau/">recalling still more detail </a>on <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2011/07/17/barry-tight-spot/">accused presidential document thief</a> <a href="http://www.barryhlandau.com/pages/press.php">Barry Landau</a>&#8216;s previous encounters with the law.</p>
<p>Longtime readers will remember Barry&#8217;s <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2007/10/26/barry-bad-witness-to-history/">starring role </a>in shyster/fixer Roy Cohn&#8217;s failed effort to tag Jimmy Carter chief of staff Hamilton Jordan as a cocaine fiend.</p>
<p>Italky digs deep, coming up with <a href="http://italkyoubored.wordpress.com/tag/barry-landau/">further details</a> of the episode which point to Landau as more instigator than reluctant witness.</p>
<p>Jordan&#8217;s alleged indiscretion prompted a semi-interminable Special Counsel investigation, which the balance-seeking missiles of the press somehow equated with the actual crimes Iran-Contra, bundling the disparate events into a compelling case of <a href="http://consortiumnews.com/2011/12/01/the-lost-opportunity-of-iran-contra/">we-don&#8217;t-care</a>-<a href="http://www.bordc.org/press/pr-2011-07-13.php">to-know-what</a>-<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jeff-connaughton/obama-wall-street-laws_b_1157915.html">our-betters</a>-<a href="http://www.hrw.org/news/2011/07/11/united-states-investigate-bush-other-top-officials-torture">are-up-to</a>.</p>
<p>So the Independent Counsel&#8217;s got killed, and the Republic staggered on.</p>
<p>Landau remains in a <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/AP4f284160eddd41ce8496c1e3a37b3b01.html">heap of trouble</a>.</p>

<p>The world will little remember reaching for the remote, desperate to squelch George Pataki&#8217;s <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2002/09/05/nyregion/metro-matters-a-dissent-on-hallowing-9-11-ground.html">insulting</a> reading of the Gettysburg address on the first 9/11 anniversary.</p>
<p>Some feared the vapid inanity of  2002&#8242;s commemorations could never be topped, but presidential libraries are doing their part.</p>
<p><strong>Who Am I &amp; Why Am I Here? </strong><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #111111; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 21px"><strong> </strong><a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/presidential-libraries-us-map.jpg" title="presidential-libraries-us-map.jpg" style="outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; outline-color: initial; background-image: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial; background-color: #ffffff; color: #cc3300; text-decoration: none"><img src="http://www.presidentsrus.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/presidential-libraries-us-map.jpg" alt="presidential-libraries-us-map.jpg" /></a></span></p>
<p>Having apparently run out of things to say about either their nominal subjects <em>or</em> their periods, today&#8217;s presidential libraries seek to present themselves as founts of Everyhistory, places to mark any odd occasion with history slapped on.</p>
<p>And <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2008/09/21/clinton-choppers-babes/">try</a> , if possible, to <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2007/10/22/the-motorcycle-diaries/">include</a> <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2009/02/12/abe-lincolns-birthday-harley-relevant/">motorcycles</a>.<img src="http://www.presidentsrus.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/bush-motercycle.jpg" /></p>
<p>At least four presidential libraries will mark the decade since 9/11, each in their own baffling manner.</p>
<p>The Franklin Roosevelt Presidential Library is at least in the same state as one target&#8230;but after that the relation gets kind of strained.</p>
<p>They will be <a href="http://www.fdrlibrary.marist.edu/publicprograms/calendar.html">displaying</a> a chunk of metal from the World Trade Center wreckage. <span style="font-family: 'arial narrow', arial; line-height: normal; background-color: #fff5ee" class="Apple-style-span"><img src="http://www.fdrlibrary.marist.edu/publicprograms/images/September11.jpg" style="border-width: 1px; border-color: black; border-style: solid" alt="9/11 Steel I-Beam" width="200" height="166" /><span style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; line-height: 25px; background-color: #ffffff" class="Apple-style-span"> </span></span></p>
<p>We might have enjoyed a retrospective on our relationship with our gallant Saudi Arabian ally, beginning with FDR&#8217;s quiet 1945 interlude with King Saud.</p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial, sans-serif; line-height: 24px; font-size: medium" class="Apple-style-span"><a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?q=roosevelt+king+saud&amp;hl=en&amp;biw=1420&amp;bih=718&amp;gbv=2&amp;tbm=isch&amp;tbnid=wOgYyy_3-N4OCM:&amp;imgrefurl=http://www.japanfocus.org/-Herbert_P_-Bix/3488&amp;docid=S4KVl4KLdOIpfM&amp;w=700&amp;h=482&amp;ei=fJ5dTurvLcL10gG7ss3rAg&amp;zoom=1&amp;iact=hc&amp;vpx=662&amp;vpy=93&amp;dur=6951&amp;hovh=186&amp;hovw=271&amp;tx=260&amp;ty=214&amp;page=1&amp;tbnh=129&amp;tbnw=165&amp;start=0&amp;ndsp=27&amp;ved=1t:429,r:3,s:0" style="display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; outline-style: none; outline-width: medium; position: relative; text-decoration: none; color: #2200c1; cursor: pointer; width: 271px; height: 186px" id="rg_hl" class="rg_hl"><img src="http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTtZvSYlFMo9RhoBCeuoPWgcwp1s8kzdSYQotekFw3TY81HUsaR" style="border-style: initial; border-color: initial; display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 4px; margin-left: auto; width: 271px; height: 186px; border-width: 0px" data-height="186" data-width="271" height="186" width="271" id="rg_hi" class="rg_hi" /></a></span></p>

<p>In dog that didn&#8217;t bark news, we&#8217;ve had no sightings of an Obama administration Rodham brother equivalent.</p>
<p>Or a Neil Bush lookalike.</p>
<p>But such is the volume of loose cash sloshing about the world that some of it is still, <em>still </em>available to the dimmest bulb of an out of power family.</p>
<p>When former President George W. Bush celebrates his finest hour this September 11, thoughts will naturally turn to other members of the Bush clan in exile.</p>
<p>Shifty Uncle Prescott has <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/25/us/politics/25bush.html">passed</a>, Jeb Bush remains <a href="http://craigcrawford.com/2011/05/23/the-jeb-bush-tease/">out of reach</a>, brother Martin remains in the obscurity of <a href="http://www.winstonpartners.com/index.html">the DC suburbs</a>*, but good old Neil Bush is still out there, riding on a smile and a shoeshine.  National treasure Ken Silverstein has a great roundup of Neil&#8217;s <a href="http://www.scu.edu/ethics/publications/ethicalperspectives/corporatefraud.html">post-Keating</a> hustles on <a href="http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2011/08/28/neil_bush">Salon</a>.</p>
<p>Silverstein offers some hope that the arc of history does bend towards justice, or at least shrinking margins for evil. He reports Bush&#8217;s compensation for doing not much may be declining over time.</p>
<p style="text-align: center">&#8220;<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; background-color: #f6f6f6"><a href="http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2011/08/28/neil_bush">It&#8217;s getting tougher to be a fixer who can&#8217;t fix much</a>.</span>&#8220;</p>

<p>From his controversial campaign embrace of Reagan nostalgia onward, Barack Obama has set Fantasy Reagan as the standard to be measured against.  But he&#8217;s lacked the twinkling whimsy to pull off the big whoppers Reagan could do with half a brain, and the <a href="http://www.salon.com/books/excerpt/2009/02/02/ronald_reagan">shamelessness of his handlers</a> in putting them across.</p>
<p>But now, light from the East.</p>
<p>Obama was already three up on the Gipper in the coveted killing Qaddafi relatives category, <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/01/us-libya-idUSTRE7270JP20110501">hitting a son and three grandchildren</a>. Reagan had to make to do with his sole Qaddafi hit, the adopted daughter killed when the US bombed Libya in 1986.</p>
<p>Now the rebel conquest of Tripoli threatens even that Reagan accomplishment.  <a href="http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2011/0826/breaking15.html">The Irish Times</a> reports from the wreckage that Hana Qaddafi may have never died, and had gone on to a career as a doctor.</p>
<p>The Reagan bomb run was <a href="http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/el_dorado_canyon.htm">storied in legend and song</a>, featuring daring-do, plucky Maggie Thatcher as Churchill in drag, and the perfidious French.</p>
<p>But now all we may have gotten out of it was the Lockerbie bombing.</p>

<p>Before they were [accused] felons&#8230;.</p>
<p>Barry Landau, &#8220;<a href="http://www.barryhlandau.com/">America&#8217;s Presidential Historian</a>,&#8221; remains in a Baltimore jail and a heap of trouble, accused of pinching presidential documents and ephemera from a Maryland archive.</p>
<p>Such trouble that his lawyer is directing attention to Landau&#8217;s alleged partner in crime, <a href="http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2011/07/14/2-suspects-arrested-for-alleged-maryland-historical-society-theft/">emphasising that Barry had none of the loot in his possession when arrested</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Barry Often Wrong </strong></p>
<p>We can all look forward to Landau&#8217;s credibility being tested at trial, the credibility of a man <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2007/10/26/barry-bad-witness-to-history/">associated with McCarthy and Mafia mouthpiece Roy Cohn and  called a liar by a presidential special counsel</a>, who claimed voicemail sniffer Rupert Murdoch <a href="http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_product=CTPB&amp;p_theme=ctpb&amp;p_action=search&amp;p_maxdocs=200&amp;p_topdoc=1&amp;p_text_direct-0=120DFBF315559028&amp;p_field_direct-0=document_id&amp;p_perpage=10&amp;p_sort=YMD_date:D&amp;s_trackval=GooglePM">inspired</a> him  to write a book.  The veracity of a man who <a href="http://www.presidentsrus.com/2007/12/10/off-menu/">invents numbers and accounts </a>for his &#8220;collections,&#8221; who <a href="http://inthearena.blogs.cnn.com/2011/07/04/barry-landau-where-theres-a-president-of-the-united-states-therell-be-an-american-flag/">this month</a> shaved three years off a Woodrow Wilson visit to Iowa for a piece of CNN holiday fluff when he wasn&#8217;t filling space yammering on about flag desecration [<em>against</em> it!].</p>
<p id="globalMastheadLogo"> <a href="http://www.macys.com/index.ognc" target="_top"><img src="http://www.macys.com/img/nav/co_macysLogo2.gif" height="70" border="0" width="181" title="Macy's" alt="Macy's" /></a></p>
<p>Barry sees what others can only imagine.</p>
<p>The&#8221;Presidential Historian&#8221; and dinner plate collector of the stars <a href="http://www.nypost.com/p/pagesix/nixon_takes_white_house_nNuyEpijZsr8HEf6jjKQKO?CMP=OTC-rss&amp;FEEDNAME=http://blog.nixonfoundation.org/2010/06/june-12-1971-and-a-favorite-photo/http://nixonfoundation.org/contact-us/media-center/press-releases/kicking-off-the-nixon-library%E2%80%99s-20th-anniversary/">rushed to inform New York Post readers</a>, and through them the world, that he alone spotted Tricia Nixon, daughter of  disgraced former President Richard Nixon among Macy&#8217;s  shoppers one day.  They, or at least Barry, recalled halcyon days of yore when Trish was married at the White House, an event memorialized in an Executive Mansion hallway, according to Barry.</p>
<p>Landau also shared the  good news that President Barack Obama recently placed a wreath at Nixon&#8217;s grave, a trick he managed without the White House or any news organ discovering it.</p>
