Gritty, Urban
Laura Bush has unveiled an exciting new talking point for the Bush Library to come in Dallas:
“This will be the first truly urban location for a presidential library “
Meaning what exactly? George will be taking public transportation to work on his memoirs at the Library? And she is casually dissing the two existing Texas Presidential Libraries at Austin and College Station, one of which is her father-in-law’s.
Would A Cow Town Shine So Brightly?
Father Figures
Production looms for Oliver Stone’s long awaited George W. Bush biopic “W.”
The story of Bush’s uncertain rise to greatness, the title has shifted from “Bush” in the course of preproduction, “Young Bush” apparently having been rejected.
How they deal with the already existing “W: The Movie” is unclear.
Additional casting has been announced, with daddy Bush to be played by James Cromwell. Right wing whining about left wing Cromwell has already begun from people apparently untroubled by his roles as homicidal police chiefs and Kiefer Sutherland’s loathsome dad.
But the standout casting remains Elizabeth Banks, as the Laura Bush you never knew.
Checked Out
Now both Bush libraries may face the voter’s wrath.
The George W. Bush Presidential Library coming to Southern Methodist University remains under attack by Methodist church members. They hope to force a vote at a July church conference, overturning the church-linked school’s decision to accept the Library.
Everything Appeared In Order
Now a candidate has emerged to challenge the Texas Westbank Community Library District’s naming of a new branch for First Librarian Laura Bush.
Weak Branch?
The Austin Chronicle reports that disgruntled local veteran Alan Roddy has filed for the board’s May election, forcing their first vote since 2001. Roddy is lowering expectations in advance of the contest, while threatening to become a permanent part of the Bush Legacy:
“I’ll make them have an election every year. … That’s my victory.”
Don’t Vote With Texas?
Barack Obama has swept a mock election at Laura Bush alma mater and would be future home of the Bush Library, Southern Methodist University.
It’s Beige!
Architectural Digest features a loving farewell to the Bush’s transformation of the White House into the House of Beige, and yet another front in George W. Bush’s lifelong struggle with his dad.
“We knew what he wanted,†says the First Lady. “We knew he wanted it to be a sunny office that showed an optimist worked there.†In the middle of the rug she and [designer Kenneth] Blasingame affixed the presidential seal, then added rays that shoot off it like the rays of the sun.”
They might also be seen as a nod to the first guys who tried to kill Bush’s Dad – Japanese fighter pilots in World War II.
Not to defend the Clinton look, but Bush’s color scheme lacks, er, color.
“The president wanted his office to be fresh,†says Blasingame, “and we changed its colors. The drapes are almost a bronzy color, and the walls are ecru. Ecru is the color of parchment, and it has a crisp quality.†The same clean and crisp color was later used in another room in which presidents conduct business—the Cabinet Room. The Vermeil Room across the hall …a neutral color, ecru again.”
