So Much For That bush-ford-coffin.jpg

“President Ford’s time in office was brief, but history will long remember the courage and common sense that helped restore trust in the workings of our democracy.”

George W. Bush at the Ford Funeral

Remember The Time Of Healing? Part of the Ford Era magic was cleaning up various CIA scandals from the 50s, 60s and 70s, stories which emerged as the empire went aground in Vietnam.

Ford was eager to move on, as contemporary obscurists say, and part of his method of heading off Congressional inquiries into past assassinations and the like was creation of the august Intelligence Oversight Board, worthies above party to peek under the intelligence covers in a non-threatening manner.

And Smoke It! ford-pipe-smoking.jpg

The Bush Administration is putting a stop to that foolishness, issuing an executive order killing the Board’s power to refer matters to the Justice Department, and freeing Inspector Generals from the Board’s meddling.

Howard Johnsons on the Savanna! olusegun-obasanjo-library.jpg

Wole Soyinka has called out former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, saying the Obasanjo Presidential Library is trying to scam UNESCO out of African artifacts.

Nigeria’s Nobel Laureate says Obasanjo doesn’t deserve the stuff.

“The man who named that library has no interest in culture. He takes pride in being uncultured.”

This seems harsh for a man whose Library can offer the following inspiring words:

“The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library is found on three props: Leadership, Transparancy and Agriculture. To strengthen his belief in the last cause, Presidential Obasanjo, him as an acclaimed farmer, plans to write a book on increasing food production in Africa.

These three policy thrusts guided President Obasanjo throughout his years of public life and allowed him to lead, achieve and create a vivid, lasting legacy that continues to shape and influence, form and guide the times in which we live right now.”

History Speaks!

For Suckers 7000-years-of-human-history.gif

George W. Bush used to be full of jolly resignation about future histories of his Administration, telling visiting Israeli journalists that “I’ll be dead before the true history of the Bush administration is written”

But as the actual end draws near he seems to be moving judgement day up considerably.

“The decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the right decision early in my presidency; it is the right decision at this point in my presidency; and it will forever be the right decision”

President Bush bumps along at record low popularity, but he is still apparently beloved in Troy, New York.

terror_training_night_of_capturing_bush.gif A video instalation intitled The Night of Bush Capturing stoked the ever hot outrage of the local College Republicans, eventually being run out of both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a local art center[the latter for alleged building code violations coincident with a picket line by local Republicans].

Leading the charge is local pol Robert Mirch.

“Allowing for the portrayal of the assassination of a president to be staged is wrong, un-American and destructive.”
