President George W. Bush places a Presidential coin into the hand of Specialist Jeremy Lee as the Dallas soldier’s mother, Garla Grubbs, right, and sister, Dana Lee, look on Friday, July 1, 2005. The moment came during the President’s visit to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where Specialist Lee is recovering from wounds suffered while serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Our caring Commander in chief apparently doesn’t like to leave war veterans or their survivors without a presidential tchochke. He passes out presidential coins during visits with families and the wounded and has been at it since at least 2004. But a dead soldier’s mother says he added a note of gracelessness to the event, telling her and several others not to sell the coin on EBay.

The Presidential injunction seems to have been effective. Only six presidential coins of unknown provenience are for sale on eBay at last check.
